Golf Tips For Short Game
The higher the handicap you are, there more chip shots you are going to be forced to make. Amateur golfers do not hit every fairway in regulation, and they certainly do not hit every green in regulation, and therefore they are quickly forced to have a good short game to shoot low scores. A majority of shots in a round of golf come from within 100 yards, and within those the majority are pitch shots, chips and putts. If your long game is going well, but your short game is not, you scores are going to be very high; but if your long game is not up to standard and your short game is, you will find yourself getting out of a lot of trouble and shooting decent golf scores. The short game is the most important aspect to get good at, because your putter along is used between 28 and 40 times per round, and then you add on pitch and chip shots and it is easy to see how many shots are made up of your short game.
There are many ways to practice a good shot game. These can range from par 3 courses, to pitch and putts, chipping greens. On par 3 courses you will expect to miss some greens, but you will never miss them by that much and therefore your short game will come into play. This will help you pick club selections on a full size course. Club selections can be hugely important, such as whether to chip or putt from of the green, or chip it over a bag or run it down the bank. Pitch and putts are very good to practice all aspects of your short game. It test your from different short distances, different lies, different angles and with different clubs. If you do play a pitch and putt, try not using tee’s when you tee of because you are unlikely to be pitching with a tee on a full size course, and it gives you more practice. Chipping and putting greens are very good for practicing your very short game in a few different ways. It makes it easier to make club decisions on the course because you know which club has worked best for you, and therefore which club to hit. They also help you know how hard to hit certain shots and can give you the confidence not to mess up a short shot.
Once you have practiced your short game, it can be a weapon for you even when your round is not looking to good. It is not the most glamorous part of golf, but it is without doubt the most important.
